Meet Jessica.
Hi!! I’m Jessica Jacovitch (she/they), a neurodivergent human who values lifelong learning, creative expression, and honoring the phenomenology of our neurobiology. I am also a somatic therapist who welcomes movement, curiosity, and laughter into sessions and am looking forward to meeting you!
My pathway into the mental health field began with a genuine interest in witnessing people’s stories and fostering an environment where vulnerability is normalized. This ultimately led me into a deeper understanding of my own narrative, as I wasn’t able to find my neurodivergence until I was established in my career. This experience allows me to understand the complexities of rediscovering ourselves and being misinterpreted during formative years.
When we are able to reframe our neurotypes as differences instead of deficits, we are also able to develop systems and environments that benefit everyone. However, in the current healthcare landscape, pursuing a diagnosis involves interpreting ourselves through a deficit-based lens. As we embark on this process together, I acknowledge the limitations of this system, the necessity of diagnoses for accessing affirming care, and the richness of our lived experiences.
I believe everyone deserves a chance to know themselves fully as they navigate life, and am grateful you’re here to deepen your self understanding. I trust folks as the experts on their own experiences and utilize a collaborative approach that centers their unique experiences and needs. My hope is to empower clients to reclaim their autonomy, enhance their capacity for activation, and develop a sustainable rhythm of living.
Modern psychology places the onus of pain on the individual while overlooking the harm inflicted by systemic power structures on our nervous systems. I believe it is crucial to expand our understanding of well-being by acknowledging the systemic impacts on our sense of self and experience in the world. As a white practitioner, I recognize treatment modalities often replicate the traditional healing practices of indigenous peoples without appropriate acknowledgment. I approach this work with humility and accountability. I welcome the vulnerability that comes with navigating cultural differences, and encourage dialogues that address harm through a transformative justice lens.
“Liberated relationships are one of the ways we actually create abundant justice, the understanding that there is enough attention, care, resource, and connection for all of us to access belonging, to be in our dignity, and to be safe in community.”
