individual therapy + coaching

As a licensed clinician, I choose to offer both therapy + coaching services at Method not only because I think both are beneficial (& fabulous) modalities, but also because I value providing options for individuals in search of some support.

Therapy + Coaching: Similarities
  • Help people set and achieve goals
  • Create a healing relationship between the client and provider that helps create change
  • Can be provided in-person or virtually

Therapy + Coaching: Differences
Therapy/Counseling:
  • Provided by a licensed clinician
    • To become licensed, one must complete a master's degree or higher in counseling psychology, standardized testing, hundreds of hours of internships + thousands of hours of post graduate supervision with experienced counselors as well as loads of continuing education requirements to maintain licensure.
    • Can only be offered in the state(s) in which the clinician is licensed
  • Provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for all (over 250!) mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, OCD, substance use disorders, bipolar disorders, etc.
  • Focuses on both the past and the present life of individual

Coaching (Creative, Life, Career):
  • Focuses on setting and achieving goals in the present and future, not as interested in the past
  • Does not involve a mental health diagnosis
  • There is no licensing or particular training or credential required to work as a coach. Licensed clinicians are generally qualified to provide coaching services
  • Can allow providers to work virtually with out-of-state clients

Whether I use counseling or coaching methods is based on each individual's needs, goals + preferences. I offer individual counseling + coaching both in-office and virtually.

Virtual Appointment Option

Method offers virtual sessions, via an HIPAA-compliant online platform, for individuals who live too far to visit in-office or for those who prefer the convenience and/or physical distancing offered by online services.

What to Expect
Your initial intake therapy session will last approximately 60 minutes and will cover logistical aspects such as paperwork, a thorough mental health assessment and a discussion about your goals for counseling.  Each session after this initial appointment will generally last 45-50 minutes.  Upon request and/or necessity, I also offer sessions that are longer or shorter than 45-50 minutes.

Get started.

Individual Service Rates (in-office or virtual):
  • $200.  Initial 60-minute Counseling or Coaching Session
  • $150.  Ongoing 60-minute Counseling or Coaching Sessions

I am a fee-for-service provider, which means that I do not charge your insurance company directly.  You may be reimbursed by your insurance company for services provided at Method Counseling if you choose to request "out-of-network" reimbursement or choose to pay using a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).  Please verify the specific requirements for reimbursement with your insurance provider.

Advantages of Fee-for-Service Care
  • Privacy.  Avoiding a third-party payor can be an important step in keeping your personal mental health information private. It is important to know that insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to consider providing coverage for mental health services and, once your personal mental health diagnosis is submitted to an insurance provider, it becomes a part of your permanent health care record.  Additionally, submitting a claim to an insurance company gives them access to your protected health records.
  • Individualized length of treatment.  Some insurance companies offer only a limited number of mental health care sessions for each individual or diagnosis, which can lead to premature termination of counseling services prior to desired relief.  By avoiding insurance limitations, we can develop a more personalized length of treatment for your specific needs.
  • Simple, straightforward payment.  Using a fee-for-service mental health provider bypasses issues with co-pays, deductibles and any unexpected payment discrepancies.  You pay one, set fee, directly to your provider at the time of your appointment.

Payment
Payment is due at time of service and I accept cash, check, or credit card payments, including Health Spending Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards.  If you choose to request "out-of-network" reimbursement from your insurance provider or use an HSA/FSA for payment, I am willing to provide a detailed invoice that you can submit directly to your insurance company.
