Hi! I’m Allison, a therapist at Method Counseling, and I’m so glad you’re here. Finding a therapist you click with is critically important to the whole endeavor, so by doing your research you’re already off to a good start.
I see therapy as a deeply collaborative and inherently creative process. My clients and I work together as a team to help them process the past, navigate the present, and grow towards a future of their own design. No one else has been exactly where you’ve been, and while it’s up to you where you go next, having the right support can make a world of difference. As a creative-minded human, I understand feelings of frustration with what seem to be limited or ill-fitting options, and the confusion of finding that what most people find satisfying is lacking or unattainable for you. I’m familiar with the vulnerability required to share your art, your ideas, your actual self. My goal is to help you understand that self more fully, allowing you to make intentional choices that lead to a truly fulfilling, ever-evolving life. In my past career as an art director in the advertising industry I had the opportunity to work with writers, directors, producers, designers, chefs, stylists of hair/wardrobes/props/food, taxidermists, luthiers, engineers, entrepreneurs, executives, editors, musicians, colorists, casting agents, actors, models, machinists, muralists, lighting crews, set designers, project managers, puppeteers, burlesque dancers, web developers, caterers, stunt people, lawyers, accountants, animators, Angela Lansbury, and one animatronic beaver(’s team of operators). |
Collaborating with all of these bright brains was the best part of the job, and over time it became clear to me that creative-minded people operate differently – which, in a world built for conformity, can sometimes create internal and external conflict. These challenges and the opportunities for growth they presented became increasingly compelling to me, and in 2018 I went back to school at the University of St. Thomas to learn how to be an effective partner in a therapeutic setting. I completed my practicum at Relate Counseling Center, where I work with adolescents and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, panic, OCD, trauma, identity, interpersonal, and marital issues, career changes, and a host of other challenges.
